We are used to seeing women and men around with cheekbones that shoot, lips that arrive before the person and eyebrows that reach the stars, but aesthetic medicine can do anything else, it can improve without upsetting and without changing its connotations.
Frequently in the studio I find many new patients who would like to improve the appearance of the face and slow down the aging process but who are afraid of transforming or distorting the face. Afraid of what they see around in their cities or which unfortunately they see on TV or on social networks, they approach with fear and almost “disgust” to aesthetic medicine.
The first thing I explain to these patients is that aesthetic medicine has two blocks of treatments, the one aimed at skin care and slowing down the aging process and the one where we can change the features of the face by restoring lost volumes or changing to “pleasure” certain areas of the face, for example the lips.
Today I will focus on the first block.
The treatments that improve the appearance of the skin and slow down aging is what is called in English anti-aging aesthetic medicine or anti-aging medicine. Here we are talking about all the treatments available to improve the skin texture, homogenize the complexion, reduce the dilated pores, remove spots … and give the skin the necessary to stimulate the regrowth of collagen and elastin.
In the aging process spots, small wrinkles, sometimes old acne scars, irregular complexion and many other imperfections due to aging agents such as the sun, smoke, pollution and above all aging appear on the skin. But in addition to these superficial imperfections, after 30 years our skin does not have the same ability to create collagen and elastin as when we were 20 years old and this is due to the simple aging process of our cells.
There are an infinite number of anti-aging treatments within non-transformative aesthetic medicine, but for me there are three fundamental pillars that are the basis of aesthetic medicine and that all patients should do. These three pillars are biostimulation or biorevitalization, peeling and PRP.
Biostimulation or biorevitalization
Better known as “vitamins”. It involves many small very superficial injections of stimulants on the skin of the face. The fact of calling it “vitamins” comes from the past. Its use was born in the 70s / 80s, at that time derivatives of vitamin C and vitamin A were injected, they were very simple compounds, packaged in vials and that based on the experience of the doctor, this was able to create cocktails bringing together different substances. Slowly, slowly the laboratories that created these substances have started making more and more complex cocktails that sometimes even contain 50 different elements. In recent years, these cocktails have been enriched with hyaluronic acid, attention!!! the moisturizing one, not the filling one and from that moment it was when in aesthetic medicine we switched to calling this treatment with the name of Biostimulation or Bio-revitalization, and why? Ok, because the past was the concept of nourishing the skin with injected vitamins, now in addition to nourishing the skin, we are injecting substances that stimulate our cells to create collagen and elastin that will reduce the laxity that the skin accumulates over the years.
So, biostimulation or biorevitalization will give the skin what neither nutrition nor creams can give alone and it is that extra stimulus to remain fresh, elastic and deeply nourished, all this on the surface gives us a more compact skin, more hydrated and with less wrinkles.
Peels
My favorites !!! There is a flood, with different functions and with the possibility of approaching each other to obtain different effects.
These are acids that are spread on the skin of the face and which based on the type of acid, the type of skin and what you want to obtain will be left to can for a few minutes or for a few hours, after which they wash with water or with cream.
Their function is to remove the dead cells of the superficial layers of our skin and by doing a kind of controlled “burning” / “inflammation”, they go to stimulate the cells of the deep layers of our skin and again, like biorevitalization, they will stimulate the regrowth of collagen and elastin. In addition to this, certain peelings will place the melanocyte, the cell that is responsible for creating melanin causing sunspots, between the ropes.
There are creams formulated with the same compounds as the peels but with much lower and therefore not dangerous concentrations that you can use them at home within your facial care routine.
The effect of peeling is a spotless skin, without small wrinkles, with a more homogeneous complexion and with less dilated pores, in addition to this they thin the acne scars.
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
Platelets are the cells that deal with blood clotting. Many relate them to thrombosis and emboli, and it is a correct concept but it seems that the functionality of the platelets is to create evil, but if we think that these cells are the ones that deal with the repair of wounds and that have a role as if were the orchestra conductors to organize and command the rest of the cells to repair the tissues, we realize its wonderful utility. And that’s what they do on the face. The skin is a fabric that due to the passage of years and due to aging agents accumulates defects, breakdowns and badly-used areas and platelets are cells that can release a large amount of growth and stimulation factors to activate a whole series of targeted cellular mechanisms to tissue repair.
PRP is accomplished by taking a small amount of blood, which is immediately centrifuged, separating the red cells or red blood cells from the plasma. With a syringe, this platelet-rich plasma is recovered and injected with small bites into the surface of the face.
The result on the skin? All the benefits you can imagine, from correcting the complexion and removing imperfections to stimulating the microcirculation by reducing dark circles and bags, passing through the thinning of acne scars … an authentic biostimulation bomb for our skin cells.
As you can see, aesthetic medicine is not always that bad medicine that creates “swollen lip monsters”, aesthetic medicine can do a lot for you, helping you to grow older in a more harmonious, natural and without transforming shape.
